The legacy of Jack Body
Guest curator: Hamish McKeich & Bridget Douglas | NZSO

Jack Body (1944-2015) was responsible for inspiring generations of composers through his teaching at Victoria University. Gareth, Michael and Chris all studied with Jack at the NZSM.

Little Elegies (1985) is Jack’s response to the suffering of the Cambodian people in the killing fields.

Gareth’s Relicit Furies was commissioned in 2014 by the Edinburgh International Festival and the New Zealand International Festival. Words by Paul Horan.

Michael’s Claro was commissioned by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for their 2015 season.

Incident Tableaux Part One by Chris Gendall was written in 2014 and performed by the NZSO at the 2017 NZ Composer Sessions.
