Can you tell us a bit about your family, kids, where you’re from etc?
My husband and I live in Upper Hutt with our crazy tabby rescue cat; Minnie Mouse. We are lucky to have a home with an everchanging view over the valley.
Where did you grow up? Where else have you lived?
I was born in Wellington and spent my youth growing up and attending school in Lower Hutt. I’ve lived in a few places; Auckland, Methven, Australia, Canada, USA and Andorra.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Some of my favourite things to do are to spend time with my extended family, especially my mother, going to my niece’s gigs, gardening, upcycling projects and catching up with friends. I also like to keep fit and enjoy travelling.
What is your earliest musical memory?
I grew up in a household where my father was particularly diverse in his musical taste genres; baroque, jazz and even Gregorian chants were played. I have very fond memories of classical guitar music, which I understand he was playing a lot while he was teaching himself to play.
How would your family and friends describe you?
Resilient, caring and fun.
“When you write the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.” – Unknown.
Who inspires you?
Many different people have inspired me over the years with their courage and drive. One person who made an important and lasting impression on me is a ski racing coach, Paul DiBello who trained the NZ Disabled Team at Winter Park in the US back in the 1980s. He was a person that overcame numerous physical challenges but went on to share his passion for skiing, sailing and the outdoors, and create learning opportunities for so many. He taught me to never give up and push myself even when I think I can’t do more.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Skydiving, a static line jump! It seemed like such a good idea at the time of booking and the training leading up to it was quite fun. I had a moment of terror when I was told I had to climb out onto the wing strut of a tiny plane and let go. It was an exhilarating experience which I won’t be repeating.
What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
Knitting hats, not a secret anymore!
SOUNZ thanks Creative New Zealand for funding for this position.
