Youth Content Creator | Kaiāwhina Whakatairanga
In our Meet the Team series we invite you to sit down and learn more about each SOUNZ staff member. Today we introduce Evie Dwyer-Leech, our Youth Content Creator | Kaiāwhina Whakatairanga.
Can you tell us a bit about your family, where you’re from etc?
I come from a very lively family of five with two older siblings, and most people aren’t surprised when I tell them I’m the youngest out of all my extended family.
Where did you grow up? Where else have you lived?
I grew up in central Auckland and have now lived in Wellington for three years studying music at Victoria University.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
My favourite things to do when I’m not working or studying is play music, read, or crochet. I play guitar, clarinet and dabble a little in writing electronic music so I always have plenty to do when I have the time!
What is your earliest musical memory?
I think my earliest musical memory would be listening to my dad play guitar. He is an absolute legend at flamenco style guitar playing and we would always dance along when we were kids in little red flamenco skirts my mum had made for us. I even have a photo of me as a toddler trying to play ukulele with him!
Where would you like to go on vacation if you had a month off and money was no object?
If I could go on holiday for a month and money wasn’t an issue I would absolutely go to Italy, fulfilling my eat pray love moment and sip wine with the most beautiful view ever.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
The shows I’m currently watching are Love Island and Malcolm in the Middle, definitely a rather odd pair. My guilty pleasure is watching reality TV and for some random reason have decided to binge Malcolm in the Middle. To be fair it was one of my favourite shows as a kid and it’s actually really good!
What are the values that drive you?
The main values that drive me are kindness, respect, gratitude, and passion.
How would your family and friends describe you?
I think the main way my friends and family would describe me is intense and loud and I’ve always been unsure if this is a compliment or not, but I’m definitely super passionate about everything I do! I think they would also say I’m funny, creative, and talk way too much.
Who inspires you?
My main inspirations are my two best friends who are so creative and talented it blows me away! They are always teaching me something new and their music constantly inspires me.
