Meet composer
Huia Hamon

Please tell us about yourself and what you do.

I create all sorts of styles, from ambient to electronic and also play a lot of acoustic on guitar as well. I've won or been nominated for awards for producing other peoples music (good organising skills!) writing as a singer songwriter (for Tātou tātou e projects) and as part of album marketing and aesthetics (Pieter T, Rei, Chong-Nee, Whaea and The Mahician, Ariana Tikao, Maisey Rika, UNchained XL). I've performed at most major festivals in Aotearoa - Splore, RnV, The Big Day Out, Parihaka, Soundsplash, Coro Summer Festival, Music in Parks, Auckland Museum Gigs, and at Aotea Square (The Edge).

Please choose 2-3 of your works/albums and tell us about them (we prefer works with audio or video links if possible).

My first EVER single that I released was 'E Awhi E'

I was so stoked about learning te reo Māori again, and I worked my ass off to get this tika with the TMP advisors... they were very hard on me!My only full album to date is Huia's Waiata which is only called Huia's Waiata because I couldn't change it without a board meeting (ha ha Māori as) So I went with Huia's Waiata and I am so proud of this. I lost and gave birth to my tamariki over this process, so there is literally a lot of tears and love in this.

I also love Āio which is my latest full E.P. Mostly because I feel it represents lots of parts of me and also how far my te reo Māori journey has come since my first release.

All my videos can be found here: www.iamhuia.com :)

What are you working on at the moment?

I am getting ready to revisit my 13 track album, in english, to release next year, its called - Inner Peace Is, and its ambient and a bit different :). Also will have some bilingual tunes and some new ones added too.

How can people contact you?

Easy as! www.iamhuia.com
