Tama Waipara & Noma Sio-Faiumu

After ten years of significant service to the SOUNZ board (including the last year and nine months as Co-Chair), Tama Waipara is stepping down from the SOUNZ Board of Trustees, effective December 2022.

Tama has contributed an enormous amount to SOUNZ through his strategic vision, wise counsel and generosity, and we will miss him greatly.

Co-Chair Eve de Castro Robinson says“It has been bittersweet to farewell my friend Tama from the Board after his decade-long stint of deeply generous, insightful, and empowering mahi. His mana, warmth, musicality, and robust kōrero have kept the room aglow at every meeting; his presence will be much missed.

“Sharing the Chair position with Tama for this past year and a half has been highly rewarding, as he has taught me so much about governance, tikanga and much more. Above all, I’ll miss his infectious laugh! Ngā mihi nui ki a koe! Arohanui Tama.”

Noma Sio-Faiumu has been appointed as the new Co-Chair replacing Tama. Noma has served on the

SOUNZ board for the last three years and has already made an enormous contribution including her work to develop the SOUNZ Moana Musics Strategy.

Noma says, “Tama is a force of change, within the arts sector his footprints are everywhere. It’s sad to see him go, but with 10 years of service to SOUNZ it’s been an honour to serve with him for the past three years, wish him all the best for the work he continues to do in his community”.
